The qualification was awarded by the Government of Canada through the Department of National Defence (DND) and Defence Investment Agency (DIA) under the DDI Marketplace competitive Request for Supply Arrangement (RFSA). DDI establishes a new procurement pathway for Canadian autonomous systems The Defence Drone Initiative was launched by the Government of Canada on July 23, 2026, to accelerate the development, testing, adaptation and production of uncrewed and autonomous systems for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and Canadian Coast Guard (CCG). The initiative is being led collaboratively by DND and the DIA and is intended to connect Canadian technology companies with operational requirements through a more agile procurement framework. The DDI Marketplace is structured as a pre-qualified supplier pool, rather than a single procurement program or purchase order. Qualified companies may subsequently compete for opportunities involving research, prototype development, testing, demonstrations, limited acquisitions and, where requirements are met, potential production.
