The initiative, developed by MAJIC Development Group and formally proposed to City and MTA leadership, is built around three connected pillars: REBLOCK BLOCKS, through which corporations adopt portfolios of city blocks and fund enhanced cleaning, landscaping, maintenance, and neighborhood ambassador services; REBLOCK STATIONS, through which selected subway stations are commercially activated through MTA-approved sponsorships, concessions, and retail arrangements; and REBLOCK WORKS, a workforce pathway that recruits veterans and people transitioning out of homelessness into paid, supervised positions with training and advancement opportunities. Under REBLOCK BLOCKS, participating corporations would commit funding for a defined portfolio of up to fifteen to twenty blocks, with program coverage extending across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Services would include enhanced sanitation, rapid-response cleaning, gardening and landscaping, trained neighborhood ambassadors, and streetscape improvements. Corporate partners would receive standardized acknowledgment through a uniform signage system that recognizes their civic investment without confusing sponsorship with ownership of a public street. REBLOCK STATIONS would invite the MTA to evaluate a program in which selected subway stations receive private investment through approved sponsorship, concession, retail, and technology arrangements. The goal is not privatization but activation -- turning appropriate stations into cleaner, more useful neighborhood gateways while creating new sources of private support and potential transit revenue. Caridi envisions a model where a coffee brand operates a concession at a supported station, a telecommunications company funds connectivity and charging infrastructure, or a local restaurant concept anchors a neighborhood-oriented food offering -- all under MTA-approved standards with public identity, emergency information, and transit wayfinding remaining fully intact. The workforce pillar, REBLOCK WORKS, is where Caridi says the initiative's impact becomes most personal. Qualified nonprofit, workforce, and service partners would recruit veterans and people transitioning out of homelessness for paid positions supporting adopted blocks and stations, with a structured pathway from job-readiness training through role-specific credentialing and ultimately into longer-term private-sector employment with corporate partners. Earlier this year, Caridi joined General Michael Flynn on an economic development mission to South Korea, where the delegation met with government officials and corporate executives to explore Korean corporate relocation to the United States and the creation of employment pathways for American Korean War veterans. REBLOCK represents a domestic expression of that same conviction -- that structured private-sector engagement is the most durable mechanism for creating lasting community impact. MAJIC Development Group is proposing an exploratory working session with City and MTA leadership as an immediate next step, with a ninety-day roadmap that includes selecting candidate pilot blocks and station types across all five boroughs, developing standardized corporate participation and reporting guidelines, recruiting a founding cohort of major corporate partners, and identifying qualified workforce and nonprofit service providers.
