The Coolpad device is expected to go on sale in China in October 2026 for RMB 999. The launch expands the company’s effort to bring AI task execution into a broader range of devices at a mass-market price. DroiClaw 3 adds support for app and tool connections, task routing, and security controls. The wider device format also gives users more screen space for text, media, system interfaces, and AI-driven tasks in everyday use. A Wider Format for Agentic AI The new wide-format smartphone uses a wider body and a 10:16 display while keeping familiar smartphone interactions. The extra screen area gives AI tasks more room to appear on screen. Text, images, video, system controls, and task results can be shown with less crowding. Shanghai Droi Technology describes the device as the first of its kind. The company’s claim refers to the combination of the wider hardware format and agentic smartphone functions. The device is made by Coolpad and runs DroiClaw 3. DroiClaw 3 Brings AI Into the Operating System DroiClaw is the company’s operating system for smart devices, with DroiClaw 3 adapted for the wider screen. The software extends the platform from smaller Coolpad AI smartphones to larger devices. The company positions DroiClaw as an AI-native OS, rather than an assistant placed on top of Android. Its system can interpret user intent and coordinate supported applications, skills, tools, and services for multi-step tasks. That approach puts an Agentic OS layer closer to everyday device functions. DroiClaw 3 uses a hybrid edge-cloud architecture. Some tasks can run through local models, supporting on-device AI, while more demanding work can use cloud computing. The system also supports multiple model ecosystems and private-model deployment. AppFunctions and MCP Support Task Execution DroiClaw 3 supports AppFunctions, an Android framework that lets applications expose selected functions for authorized AI use. This gives the system a standard route to supported app functions instead of requiring users to move through several screens themselves. The operating system also supports MCP, which provides a broader way to connect compatible tools and services. Together, these systems support the company’s wider AI Agent ecosystem strategy. Dynamic routing separates simpler requests from tasks that need tools or agentic execution. Simple requests can use a lighter path, while more complex tasks can enter the full agent workflow. Security Remains Central to AI Execution As AI systems take actions on a user’s behalf, access to apps and personal information becomes a key concern. DroiClaw 3 therefore places security and privacy within its core architecture. The system uses Rust / RUST for core services and container isolation for tools and scripts. This keeps those processes inside restricted environments instead of giving them unrestricted access to the device. Sensitive data can also be identified locally before cloud processing. The system may replace phone numbers, ID numbers, bank card numbers, and email addresses with temporary identifiers. Original information can then be restored locally. Access to location, interface control, and clipboard functions remains permission-based. Security-sensitive screens can return control to the user. DroiClaw also uses encrypted network connections. Skill packages from trusted system directories can undergo SHA-256 integrity checks before execution. Access controls restrict unauthorized applications or processes from connecting freely to AI services. RMB 999 Puts Affordable AI in Focus The October launch price of RMB 999 gives the new device a clear affordability angle. Shanghai Droi Technology says its strategy is to make agentic AI and AI-native operating systems available beyond premium smartphones. The company describes this direction as Affordable AI and part of broader AI democratization. The Coolpad device serves as a mass-market hardware expression of that strategy. The approach also supports the company’s stated goal of building an Open ecosystem for AI-enabled devices. The company’s work extends across its operating-system platforms. References to OpenClaw and a smart terminal OS fit within that broader effort to connect AI capabilities with different device types and services. Shanghai Droi Technology Expands Its AI Platform Founded in 2008, Shanghai Droi Technology focuses on operating-system development and mobile internet ecosystem services. According to the company, its FreemeOS platform has passed 200 million device installations and its network includes more than 1,000 hardware and software ecosystem partners. The company says its business has expanded into Europe, Russia, India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. With DroiClaw 3 and the new Coolpad smartphone, Shanghai Droi Technology is extending its AI-native platform into a wider hardware format. The RMB 999 device places that strategy at a mass-market price point while keeping user permissions and security controls central to agentic task execution.
CONTACT: Aurora Yang
