Singapore manufacturer draws on three decades of in-house production experience to support brands with packaging tailored to product, production and supply requirements SINGAPORE, Nov. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Jackway Convertor Industries Pte Ltd is marking three decades in Singapore's flexible packaging industry in 2026, alongside recent investments in printing, inspection and barrier-film capabilities designed to support increasingly specific packaging requirements. Established in 1996, Jackway operates its own manufacturing facility in Tuas, Singapore, producing flexible packaging for sectors including food and beverage, frozen food, pet food, healthcare, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and industrial applications. Rather than treating packaging as a standard off-the-shelf component, the company works with customers to determine how factors such as product characteristics, barrier requirements, filling processes, storage conditions, delivery schedules and presentation affect the final packaging structure. This approach has become particularly relevant as manufacturers manage a wider range of product formats, production methods and supply requirements. Packaging Requirements Differ from Product to Product A packaging format that works for one product may not necessarily be appropriate for another. Freshness, moisture sensitivity, oxygen exposure, grease resistance, sterilisation requirements, filling temperature and storage conditions can all affect the materials and construction required. Jackway's manufacturing capabilities cover a range of flexible structures and formats, including vacuum bags, retort pouches, stand-up and flat-bottom pouches, zipper bags, coffee bags and flexible film rolls. Depending on the application, different material combinations and barrier properties can be considered to help protect the contents while remaining compatible with the customer's packing process. For manufacturers moving from manual packing towards more automated production, packaging dimensions, sealing performance and material behaviour can also become part of the production discussion rather than simply a design consideration. This is where Jackway sees customisation as more than branding or print. The process begins with understanding what the packaging needs to do throughout manufacturing, transport, storage and eventual use. Keeping Manufacturing and Quality Control Close to Home Operating its own production facility allows Jackway to maintain closer oversight of manufacturing and quality control while responding to customers' individual specifications. The company identifies quality, delivery, storage and pricing as some of the recurring considerations raised by customers when evaluating packaging suppliers. To address these requirements, Jackway has continued investing in machinery and production processes, alongside coordination between its production, quality and commercial teams. Local manufacturing also supports customers that require more responsive supply arrangements. For Singapore food manufacturers in particular, Jackway sees proximity as an advantage where customers operate on tighter inventory schedules or Just-in-Time delivery requirements. Instead of relying entirely on longer overseas supply chains, locally produced packaging can give manufacturers greater flexibility when coordinating production runs, delivery preferences or changing requirements. Jackway has also continued to invest in its manufacturing capabilities. Recent upgrades include a Fuji rotogravure printing machine capable of printing up to nine colours, enhanced inspection capabilities on selected machines, and improvements to its Cast LLDPE and CPP film offerings to provide higher-barrier properties for applications that require greater product protection. Quality Standards for Sensitive Applications Manufacturing controls become particularly important when packaging is used for food, healthcare or other applications where hygiene and consistency are critical. Jackway operates certified production facilities, including a cleanroom environment, and maintains quality and food-safety related management systems as part of its manufacturing operations. The company's facility supports different stages of the packaging process, from material selection and printing through converting and quality inspection. Customers can also review print colour during production through press checks before full production proceeds. Jackway says this level of involvement is intended to reduce surprises later in the manufacturing process, particularly for customised packaging where print, structure and performance requirements have to work together. Solving Packaging Challenges Before Production Custom manufacturing also involves identifying potential problems before a full production run begins. Jackway works with customers on areas such as packaging dimensions, material construction, barrier requirements, sealing characteristics, artwork and compatibility with the intended packing process. Its research and development capabilities allow the company to assess different material structures and packaging approaches according to product requirements. Digital printing is also available for businesses that need smaller initial quantities when testing a new product or packaging concept before committing to a larger production run. For established products, rotogravure printing and customised film structures provide additional options for larger-scale production and branding requirements. The aim is not to use the most complex packaging available, but to recommend a structure appropriate to the product and its operating requirements. Responding to Changing Packaging Priorities Packaging requirements are continuing to evolve as businesses balance product protection, production efficiency, presentation, cost and environmental considerations. Jackway has introduced recyclable and mono-material options alongside its conventional flexible packaging range, giving customers additional material choices where sustainability forms part of their packaging requirements. However, the company's approach is to consider sustainability alongside practical performance rather than treating material selection in isolation. For applications such as food packaging, factors including shelf life, sealing, barrier performance and suitability for the customer's production process still need to be evaluated when considering alternative materials. This reflects the broader role Jackway sees for manufacturers as packaging requirements become more specialised: not simply supplying bags or film, but helping customers determine which structure is appropriate for the product and how it will be produced, packed and distributed. Three Decades of Manufacturing in Singapore Jackway's 30-year milestone reflects the evolution of both the company and the packaging requirements of the industries it serves. From conventional flexible packaging to higher-barrier structures, automated packing applications, smaller test runs and recyclable alternatives, the company has continued to adapt its manufacturing capabilities as customer requirements have changed. "Every product has different packaging requirements, so our role is not simply to provide a standard bag or film. We need to understand what the customer is packing, how it will be produced and stored, and what the packaging needs to achieve. Having our manufacturing operations in Singapore gives us closer control over quality and allows us to work directly with customers when requirements change." — Mr Robin Yap, Managing Director, Jackway Convertor Industries Pte Ltd As Jackway enters its fourth decade, the company plans to continue developing its manufacturing, technical and material capabilities while supporting customers seeking packaging tailored to increasingly specific product and production needs.
