The Final Score: Silver star Loh Kean Yew ‘happy’ to make Singapore history
Published on 30 Sep 2026
Loh Kean Yew has made his baby boy - and his country - proud at the Asian Games. The Singaporean shuttler also made history in different ways.
He’s the first Singaporean to reach an Asiad badminton final. He lost the men’s singles Thailand’s world No. 1 Kunlavut Vitidsarn, but that means that neither China nor Indonesia were represented in the final for the first time.
In this interview, he discusses the mixed emotions of winning a first silver, but just falling short of the gold.
